Room Thermostat “working backwards” – switching off at higher temperatures and on at lower temperatures.

The “Heating ON” terminal in all products is the “Normally Open (NO)” terminal – if the output to the Zone Valve / Boiler is connected to the “Normally Closed (NC)” terminal in error then the thermostat will appear to “work backwards” – simply reconnect to the “Normally Open (NO)” terminal.

 

 

Room Thermostat ESRTD3 “display goes blank”

The ESRTD3 has a built in auto-rechargeable battery to power the display when the system is between heating cycles. To conserve power this will run for eight hours and if the heating intervals are more than eight hours apart, the display will “go to sleep” – although the thermostat is still active. When mains power is restored, the battery auto-recharges. This is a design feature to ensure the delayed start thermostat clears its memory at the end of every heating cycle.

 

 

How do I turn my Programmable Thermostat on at a set time (e.g. 7am) and off a few hours later (e.g. 9am)?

Programmable thermostats have a number of “events” usually 4 or 6 through the day. The timing of each event can be adjusted by the homeowner, both for appropriate time and also temperature.

 

This means a programmable thermostat is never actually “off” – chosen events can simply be set to a low temperature (for example 7°C. so the heating will only come on at that time if the temperature drops below 7°C.)

 

 

Wireless / RF Product not functioning

If this is a new installation, ensure there is a connection to the common terminal (either a link from the Live or a low voltage feed from the boiler) Switch off the power for 2 minutes then reconfigure the receiver with the transmitter (thermostat) as per the instructions. Below is a quick guide reference:

 

PAIRING INSTRUCTIONS

ESRTERFW

  • Turn the receiver on. Both lights should come on for a few seconds
  • Hold M/A down until Manual Button flashes (green)
  • Insert batteries in RTERFW, turn dial up to 5 and remove dial.
  • Press and hold the black button until the receiver light goes off.
  • To check it is paired, turn the thermostat above room temperature and check that the red manual button (on the receiver) lights up.

 

ESRTPRF

  • Turn the receiver on.  Both lights should come on for a few seconds
  • Hold M/A down until Manual Button flashes (green)
  • Insert batteries in RTPRF
  • Press and hold day and set together until the receiver light goes off.
  • To check it is paired, turn the thermostat above room temperature and check that the red manual button (on the receiver) lights up.

 

ESRTP4RF

  • Turn the receiver on.  Both lights should come on for a few seconds
  • Hold M/A down until Manual Button flashes (green)
  • On the unit, switch the slider to OFF. Press and hold the A, H and + buttons for 3 seconds until the  symbol flashes.
  • When the receiver light goes off, the units are paired.
  • To check it is paired, turn the thermostat above room temperature and check that the red manual button (on the receiver) lights up.

 

 

How do I enter the Technical Settings?

The technical settings are usually entered by the installer, for this reason you can find the technical settings in the Installer Instructions for your unit. Below is a quick guide reference:

 

ENTERING TECH SETTINGS

PROGRAMMABLE ROOM STATS

Switch the slider to OFF. Press and keep holding the A and H buttons together (under the facia), then press the Next button.

 

CHANNEL PROGRAMMERS

Move the slider to RUN. Hold down the Home button, the Day button and the - button (under the facia) together for 3 seconds.

 

 

Electronic Cylinder Thermostat (ESCTDE/B) “Volt Free Contacts”?

This product is not Volt Free and requires a permanent Live and Neutral, the Common terminal normally being supplied by the Programmer or Timeclock. The ESCTDE/B does not require a link unless being used in a system with no Programmer or Timeclock, in which case a link between the Live and Common is required.

 

 

Electronic Cylinder Thermostat (ESCTDE/B) calling for heat all the time

The ES-CTDE/B will call for heat when first connected to lift the Cylinder to 61°C and hold it there for one hour to eliminate any legionella bacteria that may be lying in the Cylinder. This is its first “anti-legionella” boost - thereafter, this process is repeated every week. After this initial hour the thermostat will be controlled by the Programmer and will hold the cylinder at whatever (lower) temperature the adjustable in-built thermostat is set at. Most Cylinders can be set around 48°C which is much more economical than holding at around 65°C and always having to add cold water whenever the hot is used.

 

However, if your Boiler output temperature is too low, then the ESCTDE/B cannot get to 61°C so it just keeps trying. The solution is simply to turn up your Boiler Output temperature and this will enable the Cylinder to reach 61°C, after an hour at this temperature the unit will obey the Programmer and operate to the set point (for example 48°C.)

 

 

Electronic Cylinder Thermostat (ESCTDE/B) – How do I set the “boost” time?

The boost can be set to occur at a time that suits the homeowner. For example, if set to 7 days – then the “boost” occurs exactly every 7 days. So if you switch off the power and back on again at noon on a Monday (for example) the boost will occur every Monday at Noon.

 

 

How do I wire up the ESCTD Mechanical Dual Cylinder Thermostat?

For the ESCTD, ensure the feed from the programmer is to C (Common) and Output/Call for Heat is to 1. These are the two outside terminals.

 

 

How many room thermostats can communicate with one receiver?

Up to 6 wireless room thermostats can communicate with one receiver

 

 

What is the wireless transmission distance?

Up to 30m in open terrain

 

 

Why does my programmable room thermostat display flash between current time and another time with the letter h?

If you would like to temporarily override the current temperature you can do this using the +/- buttons. The display will then alternate between the current temperature and the time left until the next on period where h stands for the number of hours left.
